Overall (83)
Hennessy VSOP does the job, no fuss. Nothing flashy, but it ticks most of my boxes for a regular pour. Solid for the price if you want something reliable.
Aroma
I get a bit of vanilla and dried fruit right away. There's some oak in there, but it doesn't smack you in the face. Not super bold, just steady.
Taste
Mostly vanilla and dried fruits for me, maybe a bit of apricot if I hunt for it. The oak's present but not too much. Pretty easy going all round.
Finish
Finish is short and tidy. Doesn't hang around long, but no rough bits either.
Overall (81)
I opened this one during a casual evening with friends, and honestly, Hennessy VSOP is exactly the kind of cognac that knows what it wants to be. It’s smooth, easy to like, and pretty approachable, although I wouldn’t call it particularly challenging or complex. The sweet, polished style; works well when you just want a reliable glass without turning the evening into a serious tasting session :)
Aroma
The nose is immediately sweet and fruity, with fresh apricot coming through first.
Taste
The vanilla really takes over on the palate, followed by mellow oak that keeps the sweetness from becoming too heavy. It feels smooth and fairly rich. I can see why this works both neat and in cocktails –it has enough character to stand on its own but doesn’t demand your full attention.
Finish
The finish is warm and pleasant, with vanilla and oak lingering for a little while. Nothing dramatic happens at the end, but that’s probably part of the appeal: it leaves you with a comfortable, sweet impression rather than a dry or fiery one.

Overall (80)
Hennessy VSOP is of course a bottle with real pedigree, and I have a certain respect for its place in the cognac world. Still, as a collector who usually prefers greater age and a drier style, I find this expression just a little sweeter and more rounded than my usual taste. But I can see why so many reach for it; it is reliable and has a good oak backbone that keeps things interesting even if the blend leans more on fruit and vanilla than I crave.
Aroma
On the nose, there's a clear note of dried fruits, maybe leaning toward raisin or apricot, along with vanilla that is quite direct. Some oak comes through too but it's not overwhelming; just enough to remind you of its structure.
Taste
The palate is smooth, almost creamy, with that vanilla again upfront. Dried fruits are here as well, perhaps not as complex as I wish but pleasant. The oak really builds mid-palate, which suits me, although the sweetness from the fruit and vanilla stays present all along.
Finish
Finish is medium length for me, showing mostly the oakwood and some lingering vanilla sweetness. Not much rancio or depth to chase after but it fades in a balanced way. Would be better with more dryness or an old walnut edge.

Overall (80)
Hennessy VSOP is a reliable pick for the price, especially if you want something balanced and not too sharp. The flavor isn't complicated, but it gives you exactly what you'd expect from a solid VSOP. Easy to compare against others in the same range, and honestly, worth every dollar when bought at retail.
Aroma
I get vanilla right away, with a bit of oak in the background. It's not super fruity, more on the classic side. The nose is pleasant and clear, no surprises or odd notes.
Taste
Mostly vanilla and oak for me. Smooth enough, but I wish there was more dried fruit or some orange to liven it up. Still, it's well-made and doesn't taste cheap.
Finish
Finish is medium length. Slight warmth from the oak, but it fades without any harshness. Not super memorable, but nothing bad either.
