Richard Delisle Cognac is a storied brand with a heritage that spans several generations. The origins of the Cabanne family's involvement in viticulture trace back to 1810 when François Cabanne relocated to the Charente region. By 1844, Jean-Célestin Cabanne had initiated wine production, and his son, Philémon, expanded into distillation, establishing a distillery equipped with three copper stills—a notable operation for that era. Over five generations, the distillery has grown to house 15 copper stills, reflecting the family's dedication to the craft.
The Richard Delisle brand itself was founded in 1834 and was originally associated with the Mitterrand family. Following the Second World War, the Cabanne family acquired the brand, integrating it into their operations and continuing its legacy.
Today, the estate encompasses approximately 72 hectares of vineyards located in Bourg-Charente within the Petite Champagne region, as well as in Julienne and Saint Brice in the Fins Bois area. These vineyards are planted exclusively with Ugni Blanc grapes, known for their suitability in cognac production.
The distillation process at Richard Delisle adheres to traditional methods, utilizing Charentais copper stills. The resulting eaux-de-vie are aged in oak barrels, with maturation periods varying to produce different classifications of cognac, including VS, VSOP, and XO. Notably, the Richard Delisle Millésime 1975 Cognac exemplifies the brand's commitment to quality and tradition.
