Otard Cognac

Otard Cognac is one of the most prestigious and historic names in the world of cognac, known for its rich heritage and exceptional craftsmanship. Founded in 1795 by Jean-Baptiste Otard, the house has been producing high-quality cognac for over two centuries. The brand is located in the heart of the Cognac region in southwestern France, where the perfect conditions for growing grapes and distilling eaux-de-vie have been cultivated for generations.

What sets Otard apart from many other cognac houses is its unique location and aging process. The company’s headquarters, Château de Cognac, is a historic castle that dates back to the 10th century and was once the residence of the French kings. The centuries-old stone walls of the castle offer the ideal climate for aging cognac, providing a naturally cool and humid environment that allows the spirit to mature slowly and develop complex flavors over time.

Otard is known for its commitment to quality and its careful selection of the finest eaux-de-vie from the Cognac region. The house uses grapes from the renowned Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, considered the top-tier regions for cognac production. The eaux-de-vie undergo a long aging process, often in oak barrels, which imparts rich flavors and aromas of dried fruit, vanilla, spice, and oak. The result is a cognac that is smooth, refined, and full of depth.

Over the years, Otard has produced a range of exquisite cognacs, each with its own unique character. The brand’s portfolio includes different expressions, such as VS (Very Special), VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale), and XO (Extra Old), catering to a wide range of preferences. Whether enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as part of a premium cocktail, Otard Cognac offers an exceptional tasting experience that reflects the heritage and tradition of the Cognac region.

Otard Cognac remains an iconic brand in the world of fine spirits. Despite changes in ownership over the years, the house has preserved its commitment to quality and innovation, ensuring that the Otard name continues to be synonymous with excellence.
