Monnet Cognac, established in 1838, is a historic brand that has significantly contributed to the legacy of the Cognac region. Founded by Jean-Gabriel Monnet, the company quickly expanded under his leadership, introducing innovative practices such as the construction of advanced cellars in Cognac. Jean-Gabriel's son, Jean Monnet, not only played a pivotal role in the family's cognac business but also emerged as a visionary in European integration, earning him the title "Monsieur Europe."
The Monnet family's dedication to excellence led to the creation of cognacs characterized by their "sunny" style – warm, floral, and fruity notes that delighted consumers worldwide. This distinctive profile was encapsulated in the iconic "Sunshine in a Glass" poster by renowned illustrator Leonetto Cappiello in the 1920s, further cementing Monnet's reputation.
Throughout the 20th century, Monnet Cognac experienced several ownership transitions. In 1962, the Monnet family sold the company to the Scharlachberg winery. Subsequent acquisitions included Asbach in 1987 and Hennessy in 1991. By 2003, the brand was under the ownership of EDV SAS, an investment vehicle of the Guerrand-Hermès family.
Monnet Cognac continues to thrive, offering a range of expressions such as VS, VSOP, XO, and XXO. The brand remains committed to its legacy of quality and innovation, captivating connoisseurs worldwide with its exceptional products.
