La Grange du Bois Cognac was a distinguished family-run estate with a history dating back to 1727. Located in Bourg-Charente, France, the estate's vineyards spanned the Petite Champagne and Fins Bois crus, regions celebrated for producing high-quality eaux-de-vie. For nearly three centuries, the family meticulously cultivated their vineyards, distilled, and aged their cognacs on-site, ensuring that each bottle reflected the unique terroir of their land.
In 1947, Paul L., a member of the family, chose to bottle their cognac under the brand name "La Grange du Bois," named after their estate. Prior to this, the family had supplied their eaux-de-vie to larger cognac houses. This decision marked a significant shift, allowing them to showcase their craftsmanship directly to consumers. One notable release was their "L" 1947 Cognac, distilled in that year and aged for over five decades before being bottled in 1999.
Despite their dedication to quality and tradition, the family faced challenges in securing succession for the estate. Consequently, in 2017, they made the difficult decision to cease production and sell their vineyards. Today, while La Grange du Bois Cognac is no longer in operation, its legacy endures through the remaining bottles cherished by collectors and connoisseurs. The estate's history stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of artisanal cognac production in the Cognac region.
