Grand Breuil Cognac

Grand Breuil Cognac is a distinguished family-owned brand that has been producing fine, handcrafted cognac in the heart of the Cognac region for many years. Known for its commitment to quality, the house blends centuries-old traditions with modern techniques to create spirits that reflect the unique character of the region’s terroir. Located in the picturesque village of Breuil, within the Grande Champagne cru, Grand Breuil Cognac benefits from the rich soil and favorable climate of one of the most prestigious crus in the Cognac Appellation.

The story of Grand Breuil Cognac dates back to the early 19th century, when the family first began cultivating their vineyards. The estate is set within the heart of the Grande Champagne region, widely regarded for producing the finest grapes for cognac production. These ideal growing conditions, combined with the expertise passed down through generations, have established Grand Breuil Cognac as a respected name among cognac enthusiasts.

The family’s philosophy revolves around producing cognacs with an emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Their dedication to perfection is evident in their meticulous approach to the production process, which begins with the careful selection of grapes, primarily the Ugni Blanc variety, which is known for its ability to produce a refined, crisp eau-de-vie. After the grapes are harvested, the wine is fermented and distilled using traditional copper pot stills, a method that ensures the preservation of the unique flavors from the land. The resulting eaux-de-vie is aged in oak barrels, where it matures and develops a complexity that is the hallmark of Grand Breuil Cognac.

The aging process at Grand Breuil is of utmost importance. The estate uses a combination of old and new oak barrels, which impart the cognac with rich flavors of vanilla, oak, and spice. As the spirit ages, it takes on an even deeper complexity, gaining subtle layers of dried fruit, floral notes, and a smooth, well-rounded finish. The house’s dedication to aging their cognacs for extended periods results in spirits that are refined, balanced, and full of character.

Grand Breuil Cognac offers a range of expressions, from its younger VS (Very Special) to the more mature VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) and XO (Extra Old) bottlings. Each expression showcases the different stages of maturation and the evolving flavors that result from aging in oak. The VS is fresh and vibrant, with youthful fruit notes that shine through. The VSOP is more complex, with hints of vanilla, dried fruits, and spices that develop over time. The XO is the pinnacle of Grand Breuil’s craft, offering a refined, elegant profile with a beautiful balance of rich, aged flavors and a velvety smooth finish.
