Overall (86)
While most cognac houses act like secretive perfume alchemists blending hundreds of unknown barrels together, Delamain did the exact opposite here by dropping a pure single-vineyard bottling from their own 52-acre estate in Malaville. Aged for decades in seasoned 350-liter Limousin casks without added sugar or coloring, this is an aristocrat through and through no loud corporate bluster, just Grande Champagne terroir showing off in high definition.
Aroma
Give it some quiet time in a tulip glass and it opens up like a French orchard basking in midday sun. It leads with flowers, juicy muscat grapes, dried figs, and tart greengage plums tangled in fresh lilac flowers. Dig a little deeper past the bright fruit and you get hit with cedarwood, soft worn leather, and sweet vanilla pod, all without the slightest sting of aggressive spirit.
Taste
The flavor delivers crisp Bartlett pears, quince jelly, and sweet licorice before sliding gracefully into vintage territory. Mid-palate introduces classic rancio depth with gentle baking spices, white pepper, and a delicate wood dryness that keeps everything remarkably crisp and lively on the tongue.
Finish
The finish is remarkably long, clean, and persistent, gracefully fading out over several minutes. It leaves lingering impressions of cracked pepper, dried fruit skins, toasted walnut, and an elegant trace of fragrant cigar cedar.
