A moderate-intensity cognac from the family Vallet estate, without much pretense comes across as a calm, "everyday" option rather than a status bottle. It doesn't impress with complexity, but it doesn't disappoint either an even, balanced spirit with no rough edges.
Aroma
The nose is dominated by fruit plum, apricot, bordering on dried flowers and grapevine. There's a light vanilla and honey note, with hints of nuts and a bit of caramel showing up at times.
Taste
Soft and round on the palate, with no sharp edges. Ripe fruit (pear, plum, apricot) comes through best, joined by a light toasted-nut character and honey. The body is medium not as dense or rich as heavier XO, more of a lighter, easy-drinking style.
Finish
Medium-length finish, warm, with oak taking over toward the end. A light spiciness (clove) or slight dryness sometimes appears, but without a sharp peppery kick, the finish tends to fade out rather than linger.
