Bégaud Cognac is a family-owned estate located in Villars-les-Bois, within the Fins Bois cru of France's Cognac region. The Bégaud family's viticultural heritage dates back to 1756, with a continuous commitment to vine cultivation and cognac production. After World War I, Gabriel Bégaud and his wife, Laure, established the current estate on family property acquired in 1780. In 1920, they invested in a wood-fired still, enabling them to distill their own wine and produce cognac, a tradition meticulously preserved through generations. Their son, Pierre, grandson Bernard, and now great-granddaughter Mathilde have each contributed to the estate's enduring legacy.
The estate spans 16 hectares of vineyards, where traditional methods are upheld, including manual grape harvesting and bottling. This hands-on approach ensures the preservation of quality and authenticity in their cognac production. The Bégaud family emphasizes environmental stewardship by promoting biodiversity through the maintenance of hedges, edges, and grassy areas within the vineyard. They employ vegetative cover on the soil and abstain from using chemical fertilizers and herbicides, thereby preserving the local ecosystem and enhancing the terroir's expression in their cognacs.
Bégaud Cognac offers a diverse range of expressions, each reflecting the family's dedication to craftsmanship and the unique characteristics of the Fins Bois terroir. Their portfolio includes:
